System Monitoring Center is an ideal task manager and resource monitor for Linux

0

Short: System Monitoring Center is an all-in-one open source application for monitoring critical system resource statistics, eliminating the need for multiple tools.

Graphical monitoring of system resources may not be the best experience in Linux. The system monitoring tool built into your office environment can limit the details.

For example, the GNOME system monitor does not display the frequency and temperatures of the processor.

In addition, the default system monitoring applications available for Linux are generally aimed at simplicity rather than providing detailed information.

System Monitoring Center is a useful GUI tool that provides a lot of necessary information. In this article, let me tell you more about it.

System Monitoring Center: Linux application to view essential system statistics

System Monitoring Center is a sleek GTK3 and Python 3 based application that gives you all the resource usage data you want.

In my case, I wanted to keep an eye on the CPU frequency when using a system monitor tool, but GNOME’s system monitor did not help. So, it turned out to be quite handy.

The application offers a good user experience and offers a lot of information and features. Let me highlight the key features you can expect.

The app is still in beta as of this writing. So you can expect to encounter some bugs. However, I didn’t notice any issues during my brief testing.

Features of the system monitoring center

For starters, it lets you view separate statistics for your CPU, RAM, disk, network, GPU, and sensors.

You can expect the following details with the tool:

  • Displays processor status including frequency
  • Ability to display average usage or usage per core
  • Select precision points for CPU frequency and other statistics
  • Possibility to change the color of the graph
  • Filter system processes by user and manage them easily
  • Toggle a floating summary widget for quick insight
  • Shows disk usage information and connected drives
  • Detailed system information in the same app
  • Control startup services and programs
  • Possibility to control the status update interval
  • Low use of system resources for the application itself
  • Adapts to the theme of the system

While it does offer a ton of options and tab (or component) customizations, I want it to include RAM frequency, among other things, in a future update.

However, the rest of the data seems incredibly useful, given that it could replace using a disk usage analyzer and a terminal tool like neofetch at the same time.

Note that you cannot get the data for the fans if you have multiple case fans, a separate exhaust fan, or an all-in-one. Temperatures can be random, but processor temperature should be visible.

Install the System Monitoring Center on Linux

You can easily install it on any Ubuntu based distribution using the available deb package.

Unfortunately, no package is available except for a ZIP file which you will have to create and compile manually to install it. You should find a script to create the RPM package in the ZIP file.

The deb file is available through SourceForge; you need to click the button below to download it or choose to explore their GitLab instance page.

Wrap

System Monitoring Center is an open source application that allows users to get detailed information about their system resources and help manage processes.

This is a must have application that provides detailed information without going through separate terminal / GUI programs for many Linux users.
