For Kwaku Danso-Manu, continue the MS in Business Analytics (MSBA) at Emory University Goizueta School of Business was a dream come true. “It has always been a personal and professional goal for me to work in Silicon Valley and in technology in particular,” he says. That goal became a reality when he took a job as a data scientist at Visa after graduating from Goizueta in 2019.

Asked how the MSBA opened up new opportunities in his career that already included engineering and data scientist roles, he says, “The field of data science provided the perfect cocktail to leverage the skills in both areas and allow me to work on and solve problems from start to finish by being involved in all phases of a given project. »

Experience the world of business, data and technology

Goizueta students learn by doing. During the 10-month duration of the Business Analytics program, they gain real-world experiences through their school’s partnership with organizations such as FedEx, InterContinental Hotels Group, and The Home Depot.

This experience has proven invaluable to students like Jent LePalm. “Basic technical concepts include programming languages, especially SQL, R and Phyton. We worked with big data, using cloud services like Amazon Web Services,” he shares. “It’s kind of like the art of predictive modeling, so you can make accurate predictions.”

In core courses, you’ll learn from leading experts in the field. Photo on electronic markets, pricing and piracy of digital goods with Dr Ramnath K. Chellappa, the Associate Dean and Academic Director of the MSBA program which has been widely published in leading journals and conferences. His work on information privacy, his research on the digitization of music, and his study of software pricing have received best paper awards at leading conferences.

Exciting capstone projects, experiential learning opportunities

Goizueta MSBA Capstone Course blends the three facets of the master’s program – business, data and technology – in a dynamic way. Here’s how it works: Students collaborate in small teams, learn strategy consulting methodologies for breaking down issues and synthesizing recommendations, as well as managing clients and meetings. Student teams are assigned a client and work with real data to provide a solution to their client’s problem. The Executive Director and faculty of the MSBA program provide support every step of the way. At the end of the semester, the team submits the three main deliverables of a data science project: technical (code, cleansed data), dashboard visualization (Tableau, ggplot), and an executive bridge (business outcome).

“I think the biggest gain from the Capstone project has been working on a real-world dataset as opposed to the condensed, static dataset you usually see in class. We’re working with real-world data from the company”, explains the graduate Jonathan Iacobelli.

The result? 100% of graduates since the program launched in 2017, have received job offers within six months of graduation, a testament to Goizueta’s success in creating a generation of problem-solving business analysts data from all angles and find innovative solutions.

Each promotion continues to see strong demand for their services, with the Class of 2022 enjoying a median base salary of $100,000 and a median signing bonus of $10,000.

STEM designation

Daniel Liu didn’t think twice when he chose to join the MSBA at Goizueta. With their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) credential, the Business Analytics graduate was eligible for a 24-month extension of their Optional Practical Training (OPT) period. The OPT allows international students to gain real-world work experience related to their field of study in the United States.

That wasn’t the only factor that made Liu choose Goizueta’s MSBA. “The MSBA does not require the GMAT/GRE for BBA applicants, and I liked the program staff and faculty before I joined,” he shares. Liu is referring to the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) that undergraduate students typically must pass before applying to a graduate business program.

Her favorite aspect of the MSBA? Real-world experiences with classroom clients. “The experience of working closely with a client is something new to me and similar to the consulting experience,” he says.

Goizueta’s Graduate Career Management Center offers career coaching and additional help for Liu and fellow MSBA classmates to achieve their career goals, including accepting a data analyst role at ByteDance. Career staff reviewed his resume and cover letters. They also put him in contact with graduates from all over the world, allowing students to expand their network from the start.
